Physics for Preschoolers
Two children are building a structure using cardboard tubes, a plastic bottle, and wooden blocks on a table in a classroom.

How can you do physics at home and school? It’s simple…

  1. Drop an object or jump up and down. Then talk about gravity.
  2. Roll or kick a ball. 🏀 What happens if you roll it down or up a hill? 🏓🎾
  3. Make a ramp and move a car or marble down the ramp. What happens?
  4. Grab a few marbles and a few brown paper towel holders to make a Marble Run. Cut the paper towel holder in half, tape together, create the marble track, release the marbles and see what happens.
  5. Take a flashlight and make shadows on a wall. How can you make the shadow longer or shorter? Play Shadow Dance.
  6. Sink or float? Use different objects in water to test if the objects sink or float. Then talk about why.
  7. Watch or play tennis, pickle ball or ping pong.

Visit your local library to read and check out books to learn more about physics. This is a wonderful way to teach your child how to investigate, research and study. All important skills down the road.
