Coronavirus: What Parents Need to Know & Do
New School Blue logo Jan FINAL web

The Coronavirus outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The term refers to a family of viruses that include up to seven different strands. Experts are not sure how it spreads from one person to another.

In general, Coronavirus infections are indistinguishable from other respiratory infections. It is difficult for doctors to tell if a patient has the virus by examining them. The symptoms are a runny nose, cough, sore throat, fatigue and fever. The main question a doctor will ask is have you traveled to Wuhan, China recently or had contact with anyone who has traveled there. If a person has traveled there, they will be put in isolation for up to 14 days to prevent the spread of the virus.

Experts are not sure how the virus is transmitted. At this point, they say to take the same precautions that you would take to prevent the flu. Take a look below for a quick list of things you can do to prevent any virus from spreading.

What to Do:

·      Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or more
·      Use sanitizer as a backup; it is not as effective as soap and water
·      Wash hands before eating, after going to the bathroom and coming in from outside
·      Cough or sneeze in your elbow
·      Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces
·      Stay home if you are sick or your child is ill
·      Get a flu shot

We should be teaching our children how to keep themselves healthy in and out of school. Please encourage these healthy habits. We will be sure to follow these guidelines at The New E3 School.
